Michael Vick

LET IT GO PEOPLE... Listen... I get that what he did was stupid and wrong, but if you dumb fucks are willing to cry at Wacko Jacko Jackson's funeral and ride Kobe's nuts after a ring it's only fair that you let Mr. Vick throw a football around again.... and don't even get me started on R. Kelly.... Crazy to me how a dog fighter gets more negative attention in the media than RAPISTS and CHILD MOLESTERS... It's not fair...

WWKPD?

What Would Kenny Powers Do?

"Listen here you beautiful bitch, I'm going to slap you in the face with some truth..." Kenny Powers is a freak of nature... Both too stupid and bad ass to be human... If you haven't seen Eastbound and Down yet, be sure to check it for a laugh.

BLACKsummers'night (review)

I'll just say it, for the past several years Rhythm and Blues has quickly become a genre of gimmick and embarrassment. Auto-tuners and R&B thugs have inspired a culture of infantile skill and degenerate lyricism far removed from the likes of Cooke, Green, Wonder, Gaye and Vandross. "Fuckin hoes" and "poppin pussy" have quickly become the catch phrases of an art form once rich in love, heartbreak and raw emotion. BLACKsummers'night, however, is both a leap from stagnation and a renaissance of the soul that once flooded radio waves across the world. You will not find Jeezy features, 808 claps, watered down synthesizers, swag or any kind of "through the phone" kissing here. This is not an album designed to enable a night of bad decision making and the pursuit of shameful, empty grudge sex. If you are seeking such commodities I suggest that you join your local Highschool students in line at Target for the latest cracker jack, snap song. Maxwell has managed to corral a special balance of groove, instrumentation and sensitivity capable of facing the expectations of generations past, present and future. BLACKsummers'night is timeless and quite possibly the best release of 2009. Enjoy and be sure to purchase the album next Tuesday, July 7th.

My favorite ladies...

I have a special place in my heart for beautiful women who make beautiful music (how original right?). Of all the talented ladies doing their music thing right now these are my 9 favorites.... Before you ask, NO!! I DID NOT FORGET ANYBODY... Ms. Hill is not on here because I'm convinced that she intentionally breaks our hearts every year by not releasing anything... Ms. Scott is off the list because it was either her or Ms. Badu (I'm a sucker for Badu). Keri Hilson is not on the list because she simply doesn't make music anywhere near the caliber of the ladies below. Rhianna, although interesting nude, doesn't cut it and Cassie... well, let's just say (stop Dekk)... Mariah... PPPLEEEEAAASSSEE!! Ha!... Anyways, enjoy y'all... Just press play ya diiiiggggg?!!

A playlist after Work...

I've never worked harder in my life than I have in the last 8 months. It's a wonderful feeling, but there are nights (like this one) where I'm so exhausted that I can barely tell what I'm thinking. What's amazing is that no matter how tired I am, when I lay my head down I literally can't wait to wake up and do it again the next morning. I absolutely love what I am doing. I love music. If you're tired from doing what you love, put this playlist on and focus. I'm out....

LMAO @ Yeezy!!!

A friend just put me on to this article. Apparently Kanye is releasing a book of philosophical ideas/thoughts. I'm all for deep thought and introspect, but I'm not neccesarily interested in hearing what Mr. Yeezy thinks of the world. If you are a musician, make music. Massage your ego with your art and try to avoid measuring your cock in outside arenas that require extreme proficiency. In the end you will only look foolish. Just my opinion. Example: Tupac Shakur's "The Rose that Grew From Concrete":

This book was not good. It was nothing but a bunch of emo scribblings from a teenager. Sorry folks... those who study and have made a life of studying the literary art of poetic expression do not consider Tupac a top 10, 50, or even 100 poet. Same will be true for Kanye's book of philosophy. LOL... Before you get mad please try to understand what I'm saying. Tupac was an amazing musician, but he was not a good poet at all, at least not in this book. Song lyrics and poetry are different. Stay in your lane is all I'm saying. Thing is... I doubt that his poems would have ever been released had he not been murdered. Sad really, it was all about money.

Back to Kanye, bad idea... However, I must admit that I will spend an hour in Borders skimming through it for entertainment. It's basically going to be trash TV converted into a different medium. LOL. Gotta love Yeezy...

I-I'm bloggin- I-I-I'm bloggin!!

Back on my-back on my-back on my shiiiiitttttt!!!! Wow, so, music biz is bizzy... Werd??.... yup... The Spread team has been grindin more than a skateboarder.. FORREAL! BTW, the comic above has absolutely nothing to do with this post. I just thought that it was funny in a strange way. Kind of like that movie Sex Drive... I mean, I know that it was stupid... but I thoroughly enjoyed myself while watching it... Clark Duke is a BAWSS... In case you don't know who that is, it's this guy:

I'm not sure how, but he landed a roll in the movie as "the guy who sleeps around".... I can dig it though because it goes against all the rules of teen movie making... I mean, really though... Clark Duke being portrayed as a "sex god" really helps guys like me out. It makes things even more possible ya dig? I'm kind of excited to see where he ends up next because he is extremely funny... Anyways...

Everybody should know that I'm in FUCKING GREAT SPIRITS! Still broke? CHECK. Still without a bedroom? CHECK. Still having trouble finding that Dinosaur? NOT CHECK! I can see that bastard now, just gotta sneak up on him... crossbow style yo..

I'll be at ya'll soon!

I actually have some beats like this, but finding the right MC/Singer for them is extremely difficult. Maybe someday....

I mean... it's entertainment people... sometimes it just happens this way...

I'm sure by now everybody has heard of Rick Ross's incident with Louis Vuitton. Some people around the net are really trippin on this dude on some "fuck his fake fat ass" type ish... Me, I don't give a fuck! Ha! If you think that Ross is the first rapper to sport fake Louis Vuitton gear then you are a dangerously gullible fan. Hip Hop is entertainment and image is huge part of it. Unfortunately the standard image for a hip hop mega star is so high that often times a measly 6 percent royalty check amidst slumping album sales doesn't cut it... so what would you do? PUT ON THE FAKE FUCKIN LOUSI V'S THAT'S WHAT! I'm really not mad at Ross... I'm more upset at this guy:

I have not read one positive review of this album and in all honesty I couldn't even make it past the first 4 tracks before erasing it from my hard drive. This man is still rapping about his childhood and his mother? and now about sucking his uncles dick? GROW UP EM! You're fucking approaching 40... Quit rap or update the formula. This whole Relapse business has me wondering if Detox hasn't dropped yet because it sucks too. What if? Is aftermath done? ha!

Maxwell- "Pretty Wings"

Maxwell is a king... perhaps the king of R&B/Soul and I have a feeling that "Black Summer's Night" is going to solidify it. This song is incredible to me... It's on that unconditional love type ish.. You know... that let her go because all that matters is her happiness type ish... I can honestly say that I love Ms. Smith that way, but I'd be lieing if I said that I'd let her go without a fight. She is the "one" and I'm going to do eveything that I can to make sure that we end up together (forever). I've learned that people don't always end up with their "one"... I've found mine, now it's just a matter of keeping us moving forward....

this some R.L. Stein shit....

We got fuckin pigs making people sick... ah hell NO!! I woke up this morning with a slightly soar throat and a headache (insert goosebumps)... By now all my "liberal" friends are most likely spinning into some rage about "fear mongering" in America and "mass distraction"... I get it, the government wants us to be scared in order to pull off some kind of scam (insert goosebumps) but you know what.... I don't give a damn anymore! I just don't want to get sick! Beware... if you look like this:

DO NOT COME NEAR THE SPREAD STUDIO! I will bacon your ass!... this swine flu shit is crazy I'm tellin you... Not to mention the fact that Tupac showed up in New Orleans last week! LMAO! WTF? We had a nice little debate about this shit in the studio last week and the consensus is that R.L. Stein IS Tupac (insert goosebumps)...

By now all my rapper friends are mad on some "Dekk don't disrespect Pac like that bro...." but I don't give a damn! If Pac is alive and partying in New Orleans, then I am somewhat disappointed in his life choices... I mean really, that's a pretty fucked up trick to play on millions of people... and it's also a MARKETING SCAM! He got rich as hell of that shit... That's why I love Jay-Z and NaS so much... They didn't have to die to be considered "great"... I'm just sayin... Early death seems to catapult people into "legend status" that might not otherwise be there ( cough *Dilla* cough)... Oh shit!! People are gonna fucking hate me for this post!! hahaha!... Listen.... I love Pac's music, I love Dilla's music and I love Big's music... but to say that any of them was the greatest is risky to me. It's my opinion that tragic death makes objectivity almost impossible... really who cares though? LOL! This guy does:

That's Kid Couture... My DJ, my business partner... My enemy. Kid Couture is a Dilla fanatic and a weapon of mass bad-ass-ness... He once punch fought a snowboarder on tour and won... I'm just sayin... Watch out!!! Seriously though, Mr. Couture is returning from a 3 month tour this Wednesday (oh shit that's tomorrow) and I couldn't be more excited to have him back (unless he catches swine flu). The Spread team will finally be complete! Jay Child, Late Davis, Randa Smith, Dekk (me), Tim Moore and Kid Couture! you might ask "Who's fucking with that???" Well, in the words of Keith Sweat:
NO-BAWDY!!!!

Spilling the Chili....

Sometimes in life we spill the chili... But it's not about the spill people, it's about how we clean it up... I suggest using office supplies from the secretary's desk. Kevin Malone (in the clip above) is the perfect example of what to do if you ever find your chili on the ground.

LOL

the good life?!

If you were to listen to Kanye you would certainly imagine a life in the music industry to be a bonkersly-glorious experience... umm... Well.... It's fulfilling, exciting and inspiring... but it's also CHALLENGING, especially when you're trying to make a mole hill out of a canyon. These day's I'm starting to get worn thin... I mean literally... People keep asking me,

"Dekk are you sure that you're eating?"

or

"Dekk why you got rings under your eyes? You got AIDS?!"
To those of you who care enough to ask, THANK YOU, and no I don't have AIDS...YES I am eating!!.... but I'm also spending a lot less time sitting and sleeping. In fact, even when I sleep I find myself waking up thinking about what I could be doing to get ahead. I've never been the obsessive/addictive type, but I'm starting to wonder if I'm heading in that direction... at least with music... I could sit here and gas you up like "music is easy for me" and "it's nothin, I'm taking over," but in all honesty it's fucking HARD WORK... I'm NOT complaining because I love it, but I'd be a liar if I didn't admit that sometimes I overwhelm myself... It's funny because I've never really been overwhelmed by anything... This is how I know to keep going no matter how hard it gets... I ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT THIS and even though it can be tiresome....

.... at the end of the day it's all about finding that fucking dinosaur right?!

hip hop has changed so much....

Some people HATE the constant transformation and evolution of Hip Hop culture.... I am NOT one of those people. In fact, I am truly inspired by the current artistic exploration evident in the craft of mainstream and underground artists. It seems like people are finally admitting that a synthesis of outside genre and influence is a thing of beauty, whereas before you either brought it all Hip Hop all the time or you went home.... I still have love for the aggressive spirit of "pure Hip Hop", but I must admit that the diversity of sound present in the current generation is refreshing. We are making up for the gimmicks of the late 90's and early 00's... Beyond the music, what grabs me most is the evolution of branding and image.... oh how things have changed:

addressing the elephant in the room....

I have been noticing Common's instability for a while, but now it's reached a point where it must be addressed. Not only is the above commercial entirely whack, but it's also a representation of Common's constant contradiction. The man has spent a good part of the last decade establishing himself as a conscious MC. In fact, he was often one of the few rappers who accepted the "conscious" title with open arms (unlike Nas, Kweli, etc.). Common has often made very strange decisions with his music and career and as of late he has somehow transformed into a "bitch" loving playboy. Before we get into that, let's observe the past. I'm not sure when the wierd decisions began, but I'm pretty sure it was somewhere around here:

Miz Badu seems to have a way of turning men crazy and for certain people (Andre 3000) it has ended up being a "good crazy".... but it really didn't work out for Common because it seemingly led him to this:

Now I've heard the argument that Electric Circus was before it's time... IT WASN'T... Let's be honest people, it was a mess... I give Comm credit though because he was able to rebound with "BE" and a somewhat interesting "Finding Forever"... but this last year he hit us with:

Universal Mind Control is not only a transformation for Common, but it is a complete contradiction of everything he once stood for. On Universal Mind Control there are continuous references to women as bitches and a seemingly constant undertone of misogyny. The produciton is new age and synth laced, which is fine for the new breed of MC (a la Kanye, Lupe) but Common just ends up sounding like an old man who is desperate to be current. In a recent collaboration with Kid Cudi and Kanye called Poker Face (on my play list below) Common literally says:

"a stripper from the south looking for a pay day,
said bitch you should do it for the love like ray j,
she said but you be on that conscious tip,
get your hair right and get up on this conscious dick"

WTF? Keep in mind that this is the same guy who released "The Light" and "Come Close"... I don't want to sound too critical... but I must admit that I have quickly become uninterested and uninspired by Common. He used to be one of my favorite MC's, now he just comes off as desperate... Kind of like when MC hammer tried to come back as a gangster rapper! lol! I know that there is most likely a story and an explanation... but even that scares me... can money, fame and Hollywood really change an individual that much? Or was the conscious Common always an act? Guess we'll never know....
