Just got done KICKin it with the other half of Moxie Black, iLLaj.... We poppped the Moe.. we knocked back the vodka... we celebrated for several reasons:

1. The album mixes are perfect.
2. Kid Couture's birthday was Tuesday.
3. iLLaj is leaving Portland for Miami.
4. The EP is out in March.
5. the LP is out in June.

We're proud... We're excited... We're already working on the next album! Congrats to my dude iLLa... Happy B-day Couture and most importantly, GOOD LUCK MOXIE BLACK!

So, I already posted this on the OTHER BLOG, but I decided I'd like to go into further detail with the dinosaurs... Basically, is sampling a fuck-head move or not?

Answer = sometimes

Let's be real, some of you dudes sample because you CAN'T play an instrument or compose a melody on your own. Let's be real, some of you dudes sample by LOOPING 4-8 bar segments of late 60's/early 70's records. I'm not anti sampling IF YOU'RE DOPE and UNIQUE, but if your shit just sounds like everybody else... well.... go kill yourself. Not really, but either go to the lab and practice or KILL YOUR CAREER. You're probably better suited as a manager anyways LOL.

All jokes aside, I don't really care how you make music so long as you are CONSTANTLY aspiring to create something beyond the confines of your skill level. That's my vision...

I am not a patient person... at all... so the fact that this Moxie Black album is so close to being finished yet so far from being heard is TORTURE! Mixes are sounding buttery right now... like fattening good yo... The project will be mastered next week, which means that the official release date will likely be late May/early June... That's a long time before y'all get to hear it... However, there will be a FREE EP leading up to the album dropping sometime in March!!! YES! Free!

In other news, I'm currently working on the Moxie Black follow up album... I know it's a long way off, but I like to think ahead ya dig??? The sound is umm... well... even more different than the album thats 'bout to drop... Stay tuned... I just might have a career soon... god that sounds good...

Reviewed the first draft mixes for the album.... Things are sounding like bacon and breasts at the same time:

Ok maybe that's the wrong way of putting it... What I mean to say is that things are sounding very, very good... and to me bacon and breasts are very good things... so I figured that If I combined them it would explain how excited I am about the sonic value of Moxie Black's debut. However, as I write this I'm starting to think that it wasn't the best way to explain myself... Forgive me?

Well, now that we're off topic... I can't help but wonder why a photo like this even exists. I mean, really?... and imagine the acne that followed this photo shoot.. yuck.. Just, stop reading my blog folks... No don't.. I kind of like you... well, I guess I don't really know who you are, but if you're reading this I imagine that I would like you... or maybe I do like you already.. confusing... but anyways, do you think they made breakfast after this? Is this what lingerie looks like in Iowa?

just sayin.... I mean, if I'm too hot and I see a plate come out that contains melted cheese I instantly get uncomfortable. Something about the steam from the food on top of the irregular climate ya know?... just sayin.

anyways, today is cool. I'm still reeling from the energy of a track I composed last night with a friend. Dare I say I'm venturing into a new realm of creativity? Maybe.... Later today I've got a meeting with a well respected Portland Hip Hop producer. Gonna see what we can cook up... Project ahead, likely.

In Moxie Black news, the album is currently in the final mixing stages and will be sent off to be mastered by the end of January. We'll start rocking the PR and Radio Campaigns early February, which means that y'all won't hear the music until May... BUT... The EP will drop in March for FRRREEEEEEE!!! Yes, free.

it.... is.... crunch time. time to crunch myself. it.... is..... like every song i hear makes me feel like my music sucks. not good enough. need change. need perspective. need to polish. need to meet in the middle. visit the place where everybody else seems comfortable. it..... is..... killing me to feel like i might miss an opportunity as a result of not being prepared. must get better. i'm proud of what i've accomplished. i'm proud of what's coming out this year, but a transition must occur. too much business. too many contracts. too many spreadsheets. too much free time. must get better. must tighten up my schedule. clock is ticking. bank accounts are emptying. loved ones are growing restless. we barely know each other anymore, me and the keyboard that is. we just go through the motions without any connection. i don't get lost. too safe. not good enough. too few drafts. the next step must be huge. no more baby steps. no other choice. more blog posts. more free music. more solo work. more... more.... everything?

ring a ding ling dong the new year

Unlike my peers in the above photo, I did not ring in the new year with a big fat party... In fact, right now she sleeps while I watch The Hangover... 2010 is nothing special to me YET. To be completely honest I stayed in tonight because I'm simply too broke to go out... Something has to change this year and I'm determined to start things off right. Up early tomorrow searching for my focus... Time to zero in on success... Who's got one?
